Our Course Director

Our Course Instructor

Hi my name is Phil; I am the Course Director here at Deep Blue on the tropical Island of Utila in the Bay Islands, Honduras. My love for the underwater world was realized way back in the 70’s, watching the Jacques-Yves Cousteau’s memorable underwater documentaries. I just wanted to be able to put that thing on my back, the other thing in my mouth and get underwater. So in 1981, when I had the money and to the horror of my mother I became a Padi Open Water Diver.

I haven’t stopped since then, one of the best decisions of my life was to become a Padi Instructor. Becoming a Padi Instructor is truly the passport to the world, I have dived some of the best and worst dives sites in the world, and the best part is you get paid to do it. The dive industry can lead you any where, I have worked on movies as a safety diver/stunt man and also been a support diver for a world depth record in 2003. The possibilities are endless.

Originally from OZ, I have worked primarily in the Asia Pacific region. Six years ago, I owned and managed a dive centre in Vietnam. Once I had reached my goal there, which was to get the store to a 5 star IDC centre, I moved on to Thailand and completed my technical instructor training and become a course director. I enjoy teaching and having fun doing it, teaching people from all over the world and seeing the look on their faces when you hand them their certification is still a thrill. You will still find me teaching all levels of diving from DSD right through to trimix instructor. Now I have moved over to the other side of the world to dive central (Central America). At Deep Blue we can offer you your IDC in modern air-conditioned classrooms with all the latest Padi materials, at our private dive resort, away from the noise and distractions of town, with plenty of staff support. What a great place to learn to become an instructor, in the Caribbean Sea with its crystal clear water and great water temperature.

Looking forward to hearing from you soon

Regards Phil

Our Facility

We conduct our IDC at our new training facility, away from the bustle of the main dive shop in the village of Utila. Our facility is modern, with air conditioning, a lounge with internet access, and access to all PADI training and marketing materials. Our facility also has leading-edge tools such as LCD projection equipment, computers and all PADI Prescriptive teaching materials and Powerpoint presentations. Our 'Open Water' training site is a shallow protected clear body of water lined with palm trees, and white sands.
